Hello Geoff,
I hope you remember me: I asked you about getting the
trial-version of ntemacs. You suggested uploading it
to an ftp-server. I found one!
Try the incoming-directory of ftp.germany.eu.net!
The EUnet is a network-provider that works together
with our University. For me it will be very easy to
download the version from there.
But please send a mail to archive-admin@ftp.germany.eu.net
so that they now about it (I have already asked them about
uploading the 7.5MB trial-version - it is ok).
And please keep me informed about the uploading.
I am waiting for the file,
Kubi

Hi,
I compiled emacs 19.30 and put it on my web. It's the bin directory only,
so you'll need the distribution also.

I did this only to score some points with you who don't own a compiler,
but do know emacs. (I know emacs, but only from a user's view, I have
always relied on others to set it up for me, and now I can't get it to
work on NT by myself)

My hope is that you people will help me get emacs working on my swedish
system, and if you do, I'll put an FAQ/tutorial on my web.

Hi Geoff,

I dont know the procedure, but here in the UK there are several sites
that maintain very large collections of software, have very fast links,
and probably wouldnt notice another 50Mb.

The largest are:

src.doc.ic.ac.uk

and

micros.hensa.ac.uk (Try email hensa@micros.hensa.ac.uk)

Unfortunately I cant point you to anyone in particular as I dont know
anyone with either organisation. I have in the past been able to find
anything I wanted at one of these sites though. I hope they can help!

Cheers,

Dave Burns

Hi Geoff,

maybe you remember me; I mailed you a few days ago because I had
problems downloading your port of GNU Emacs from Germany; a few days
later everything worked fine. The explanation was quite simple; the USA
were connected to Europe with 2 MBit/s; a few weeks ago two 45 MBit/s
lines were installed; in the first time this caused several problems,
but in the meantime it works and *is* fast. Connections from Europe to
the USA should now work fine, at least when accessing the Internet from
the DFN or other Scientific Networks.

Anyway, since there are not many mirrors in Europe, I put the compiled
binaries on our server
(http://www.fachdid.fu-berlin.de/SE3/Service/Emacs/); the HTTP-document
is in German and uses a <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> statement, but everybody should
be able to get the files. If you're interested to make this an
"official" mirror, we can give you an account on our FTP-server ("WAR
FTPd" 1.52, currently under construction).

Thanks for your time, -asb

:) The main reason for me doing this is because I worked at a place
(as a SysAdm ) a year ago, where they run Win NT on the servers. And
if one, like me was used to emacs, DOSedit is fun ... not. Now this
place didn't have any programming tools at all, I couldn't compile it
for meself. And as your distribution worked perfect, I now want to
help others.

OK, I downloded, without any problems, all the distributions
yesterday. You can take a look at ftp.ctrl-c.liu.se under
/windows/emacs or
http://www.ctrl-c.liu.se/ftp/windows/emacs

Well, because we run OpenVMS, I had some problems with the filenams;
In RMS, the file system manager, only A-Z, -, _, ., and $ are alowed in
filenames. And only one ".". Therefore, a file called
foo.bar.gazonk.zip is translated into FOO$BAR$GAZONK.ZIP . I'll
rewrite the readmefiles. And the utility crypt++.el became CRYPT--.EL
. :/
