********************************************************** *** ANNOUNCING THE RELEASE OF LINUX TKNET VERSION 1.0 *** ********************************************************** 31st January, 1996 by Charlie Kempson (charlie@siren.demon.co.uk) (kempsonc@logica.com) See http://public.logica.com/~kempsonc/tknet.htm Following comments from various people on the first release of TkNet, I am pleased to announce the release of TkNet version 1.0, which contains significant enhancements over the original. Changes since version 0.9 include: * Support for multiple (dis)connect scripts * Optional display of link throughput in Kb/s * Scripts configurable via a new setup screen * Connect status button toggles connection * Startup iconified option * Support for launcher items and status as images * Option to hide message line * Help text expanded * Other bug fixes and minor aesthetic improvements Many thanks go to those of you who sent me comments and encouragement, and who therefore contributed to the release of this upgrade. Upgrade notes are contained within the package to ease the upgrade from 0.9 to version 1.0. TkNet version 1.0 is currently in /pub/Incoming on sunsite, but will eventually reside in the same location as version 0.9, i.e. ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/Network/serial Have fun! Charlie Kempson ********************************************************** From the release notes for version 0.9: TkNet is an easy to use X front end to SLIP/PPP. It was written for managing a Demon Internet account, though the interface has been designed for easy configuration to suit other setups. The emphasis throughout is on ease of use and maintainability. The key functions performed by TkNet may be summarised as: * One click connect and disconnect * Easy-read connection status and connected time display * One click mail retrieval (Demon users note!) * Biff monitoring your mail spool file for new messages * Launch applications via the integrated configurable toolbar (internal or external). * Automatic reconnection on disconnection (optional!) * Display of local and remote mail queues * Message status line (also used for Microhelp) * Log file kept * Extensively configurable and customisable using the setup screens provided * Supports global and local configuration files
